Introduction:

 

"In case 

What you are looking for is a light year away from you.

Do you know what to do?

Are you going to give up?"

People always realized what they once had after they lost it. In fact,you know what you have,  and you just never thought you'd lose them.

 

"Seeker" is a philosophical and emotional experience game that expresses the abstract emotions about losing and gaining.

 

[Core Game]: Players move around by W,S,A,D in order to solve several puzzles, causing changes in time and space and everything. Through time and space, they constantly search for and collect the pieces of the “treasures” that they are eager to find. Players collect the four pieces that are left behind in order to trigger the end of the complete story.

 

[Game Features]: Each chapter of the game will present a new image of time and space with different art designs. Each chapter which is based on real history and philosophy tells a philosophical story. The currently completed chapters are: Berkeley Space, Hanguguan Pass, The Great Wall and modern city.

 

[Remarks]: The background music in the video comes from the work title "Elementary Wave 11v2" released by frankum on May 19, 2019, "Ambient guitar X1 - Loop mode." and deleted_user_2731495 released on April 16, 2013.

Motivation of creation:

From July 16th to July 18th, 2018, I was fortunate enough to be selected by Tencent NEXTIDEA Studio to participate in Tencent NEXTIDEA's first game development camp.
The theme of the development camp was “See Traditional Culture from the future”, which required inspiration from the Historical monument, terracotta warriors and horses of Xi’an.

I always love to reflect on life and game design is my favorite way to express all my new ideas and emotion. It feels really amazing to say what I want to express through the game. That is why I am so interested in game design, just like this demo I produced in my sophomore year in Tecent NEXTIDEA studio. I have previously read an article on the Berkeley philosophy on Google, which has a sentence full of philosophical thoughts: "The table I write on, I say, exists, that is, I see and feel it; And if I were out of my study I should say it existed, meaning that that if I was in my study I might perceive it, or that some other spirit actually does perceive it. So I figured out how to use the game to make it easy for players to understand the relationship of this link of philosophy (the relationship between getting and losing). In the end, I decided to make a philosophical and emotional experience game in order to tell everyone abstract emotions about losing and getting.

Hanguguan
It is a scene about real history in China. To get the pieces of "the treasure", I go from the future to the ancient times, I appreciate the charm of the terracotta warriors and horses, which is the one of the most renowned treasure in Chinese history.
Berkley time and space
It is a scene with imagine. All of the things can move interactively, following the change of time and space.
The rotating black hole is the exit of this bizarre environment.

The typical pottery figurines of the Qin Terracotta Warriors and Horses include generals(the 3rd image above), military sergeants(the 1st image above),and royal scorpions(the 2nd image above). Three types of figurines each have different clothes, which are demonstrated in 3 pictures above.

The Great Wall
It is also one of the most famous spots in China . The bricks which constitute this scene were once carried by the laborious people of China.
In this level, in order to get the beacon tower at the top of the Great Wall, the player have to observe the movement of bricks and try to solve the Great Wall puzzle.

The modern city
It is a current scene in China. To get the pieces of "the treasure", I go from the ancient times to nowadays, I finally find out what I always seek for. It is myself. I regain myself.
